The Star of Bethlehem is easily identified by its stunning white starry flowers and is a hardy, easy to grow addition to any garden.

The Star of Bethlehem is a bulbous perennial that is native to the Mediterranean region. It produces stunning small white starry flowers from early spring. Each stem bears 10-20 starry white flowers in an open umbel-like cluster. Small grass-like leaves with a white or pale-green vein grow at the base of the plant. The Star of Bethlehem grows to a height of 15-30 cms and a width of 30cms. Ideally suited to pots, borders and rockeries.

Growing and Care

This variety of Ornithogalum is very hardy and pest resistant. It performs well in full sun and part shade. The Star of Bethlehem can tolerate light frost as well as dry conditions. The leaves will begin to droop and fade as the flower stems rise in mid-spring.
